CBS News reported on September 25, 2025, that a huge sinkhole in Bangkok, Thailand, swallowed a portion of a road and at least one vehicle. The incident forced evacuations in the capital city. According to the report, the collapse occurred near a police station, which was almost taken down by the expanding sinkhole.
Bangkok's governor, Chadchart Sittipunt, said officials believe the sinkhole was caused by construction work at an underground train station. The collapse of the four-lane road also pulled down electricity poles and damaged water pipes, prompting officials to cut utilities in the area as a precaution. A nearby hospital closed its outpatient services for two days, though city officials stated the hospital's structure was not affected. Crews are working to repair the hole as quickly as possible.
