TechCrunch reported on October 1, 2025, that "Fortnite" maker Epic Games has experienced a positive impact on its user growth due to a new installation workflow from Apple. Epic Games said the process, implemented in the iOS 18.6 update, has successfully reduced the rate of user drop-offs during software installation by 60 percent. This indicates that significantly more users who begin the installation process are now completing it.
The change was made in the European Union to comply with the Digital Markets Act and reduced the number of steps for installing alternative app stores from fifteen to six. Epic stated the previous workflow, which included what it called "scare screens," deterred about 65% of users from completing an installation. That figure has now fallen to 25%. The data points to a more streamlined path for adding new users on the iOS platform.
