CBS News and other outlets reported on September 29, 2025, that YouTube's parent company, Alphabet, will pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit from President Donald Trump. [3, 5, 8, 9] The lawsuit was filed after YouTube suspended Trump's account following the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. [3, 4] Trump had claimed the suspension violated his First Amendment rights. [2, 7] The settlement ends a legal battle that began in 2021 and follows similar agreements Trump reached with Meta and X. [2, 3]
The agreement directs $22 million of the settlement funds to the Trust for the National Mall to help finance the construction of a new White House State Ballroom. [2, 3, 5] The remaining $2.5 million will be paid to other plaintiffs in the case, including the American Conservative Union. [2, 4, 5] While Google confirmed the settlement, it did not admit liability as part of the agreement. [3, 5] The funds are designated to support the ballroom construction project. [2, 7]
